While I live in Austin, I KNOW Rocky Mountain National Park really well, and I love traveling up there ever Summer and Fall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rather than flying, we drive. It is always a wonderful trip, with many &#8220;usual&#8221; stops we make along the way.  Regardless of where you are coming from, remember driving might be a fun option to consider instead of flying! Take pictures along the way!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here are a few spots we like to stop on our route up:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"2254\" height=\"1636\" src=\"http:\/\/rockymountainphotographyworkshops.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/owl2.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2584\"\/><figcaption>Coleman, Texas has this little drug store, Owl Drugs. We love stopping there for a late breakfast or an early lunch because it&#8217;s like stepping back in time, to an era where drug stores often had a soda fountain \/ cafe in the store!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1200\" height=\"682\" src=\"http:\/\/rockymountainphotographyworkshops.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/owl1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2585\"\/><figcaption>Lunch in Owl Drugs, Coleman, TX<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1200\" height=\"900\" src=\"http:\/\/rockymountainphotographyworkshops.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/KGiphone20160706_3843.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2608\"\/><figcaption>Owl Drug makes a pretty good burger!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1200\" height=\"387\" src=\"http:\/\/rockymountainphotographyworkshops.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/KG20130703_001.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2586\"\/><figcaption>As we get near Sweetwater, TX we see lots of these wind farms generating electricity!  You can&#8217;t miss them. They&#8217;re everywhere!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1200\" height=\"402\" src=\"http:\/\/rockymountainphotographyworkshops.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/train.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2618\"\/><figcaption>One of the landmarks I always notice along the way is this enormous, multi-silo grain elevator in Plainview, TX.  Note the scale, compared to the train engine. People spray new graffiti every day!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"2218\" height=\"1636\" src=\"http:\/\/rockymountainphotographyworkshops.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/bigtexan.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2593\"\/><figcaption>Part of our &#8220;routine&#8221; is to stop here for dinner at The Big Texan Steak House. They are famous for offering the &#8220;Free 72oz Steak&#8221; if you can eat the whole thing with sides in under an hour. No, I have not tried to do that. \ud83d\ude42<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1200\" height=\"900\" src=\"http:\/\/rockymountainphotographyworkshops.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/KGiphone20150928_0822.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2610\"\/><figcaption>Or sometimes we get there after dark.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1200\" height=\"900\" src=\"http:\/\/rockymountainphotographyworkshops.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/KGiphone20150708_0437.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2611\"\/><figcaption>Lots of tourists eat here.
